Debie Rise and Moses

Looking at the contestants at the final stage of the Nigerian Idol it’s like déjà vu all over again. Guy versus girl; plump versus skinny;
energy versus finesse. Where have we seen this all before?

 For all you Idol lovers out there you should remember the epic showdown that was
West African Idol, which came down to a battle between the ever delightful and energetic Omawumi Megbele and the restrained yet
confident Timi Dakolo. It was a toss-up to see who would win the show but eventually Timi took it all and went on to a solid career after a
brief hiatus. Omawumi took second and rocketed into the limelight with her single ‘In the Music’.

Both finalists share unique traits with their predecessors: Moses has Omawumi’s big voice and shares his quiet personality with Timi, while
Debbie’s soulful, acoustic sound is more of a match with Timi. She does however share Omawumi’s energy and never-back-down spirit. Sunday
night’s performance put the Moses and Debbie Rise in definite juxtaposition with each other, and it looked like it was going to be
star power versus vocal talent playing out on the Nigerian Idol stage.
Debbie was “divalicious” with her song choices, singing ‘Survivor’ by Destiny’s Child, ‘Fallin’’ by Alicia Keys and mash up of ‘Shy Guy’ by
Diana King. Moses went for the guys and sang ‘Forget You’ by Cee-Lo Green, ‘Redemption Song’ by Bob Marley and ‘Oliver Twist’ by D’Banj.
In the end, it will remain up to Nigeria to choose who has what it takes. It will be must watch television next week Sunday as the grand
finale airs and Nigerian Idol names its season three winner: Moses or Debbie Rise!
