MIX IT UP: THE KEY TO INCREASING SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGMENT
You already know that social media can do wonders for PR. You also know that when handled correctly, you can build your brand and attract new customers via the web. But with so many companies getting into social media, how can you organize a campaign that’s going to set you apart?
The key? Mix it up.
Different Things to Try with Your Social Media Accounts
If you want to mix it up, you need to start doing something outside of the box. Simply firing off one sentence tweets and updates about a new product is no longer going to cut it. Here are a few suggestions to help you do it right.
- Run a contest … that’s different: Everyone loves a contest. Why? Well first of all, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who isn’t interested in something for free. With that in mind, using your social media accounts to run various contests can prove rewarding. However, at the same time, you don’t want to just throw out generic “post a cool picture” or “next person to ReTweet wins” type contest. Instead, get creative and challenge your followers. For instance, if you ask them to create a funny commercial for your product and post it on YouTube, not only will participants have more fun with the contest, but you will also find more people developing deeper connections with your brand in the process. And deeper emotional connections are more likely to equate to long lasting business.
- Use pictures that pop: Whether you’re running a blog, shooting out Tweets, or updating your Facebook status, it’s common knowledge that sharing an occasional picture is a good way to mix things up. In fact, especially now with Facebook’s new timeline, the focus has shifted quite a bit to pictures. But not just any old photographs; you need high quality pictures that really catch the eye. In other words, it’s time to start investing in producing professional level pictures for your services and products to share over the web. The better the photos, the more professional your business looks. And you’d be surprised how inexpensive creating high quality images can be if you do your homework.
- Create your own videos: With sites like YouTube exploding in popularity, not only is video marketing more essential than ever, but it is also easier than ever to get involved in. Any person with a video camera and internet access can upload videos to the web and share them with all their friends. Now, that’s both good and bad. The good news here is that getting your videos posted and sharing them through your various social media networks won’t cause much headache. The bad news is that since everyone can do it, you have to work hard to produce an above average product that will turn heads and capture attention. That said, don’t think you can use your iPhone and produce a 30 second infomercial that people are going to watch. You need videos that are carefully planned, witty, and professional in appearance.
